Destiny 2 cinematic and gameplay trailers released

Bungie held a long and in-depth Destiny 2 event yesterday, where it showed off not only a brand new cinematic story trailer, but a good chunk of in-game action, letting fans of the original and potential new convertees to the sequel, know exactly what they are in store for when the game launches later this year.

In the videos from the event we see the precarious situation Earth and its guardians have been in the past and will be again, now that a new threat has emerged. While together they may have rebuilt much, they now face new enemies and new dangers which put the fate of the world in their hands once again.

The gameplay itself should be familiar to players of the original, with a solid blend of melee attacks, powerful abilities and of course devastating weaponry. Players will fight aboard and against the Red Legion's fleet of ships and its seemingly innumerous armies, but they're not alone. They have each other and a colorful cast of characters joining them in the fight.

In one segment of gameplay footage, we see a Guardian fight through the ruins of humanity's last stronghold, before being carried to one of the Legion's ships, fighting through grunts and mini-bosses, to reach the generator room, where the feed ends, just before we get a look at a much more terrifying boss enemy.

Destiny 2 is set for release on September 8 this year.
