Decksplash combines Tony Hawk and Splatoon for free trial test

The developer behind Surgeon Simulator, Bossa Studios, has announced a free trial week for its next game, called Decksplash. The game blends the map-painting, territory grab gameplay of Splatoon, with the tricks and skateboards of a Tony Hawk game.

Although that's a little different in its own right, what's truly unique about Desksplash is its marketing push. Partly to gauge interest and partly to generate hype, Bossa has announced that it will run a free week for Decksplash and if 100,000 people play it during that time period, it will continue to work on the game as planned. If less than that number show interest though, it will axe the game entirely and move on to something else.

"Like any proud parent, we love Decksplash, but unlike deluded creators, we want to believe that you love it too," the game's Steam page reads. "Thus we’ve devised a ‘first of its kind’ experiment: The Splash N’ Grab! We’re releasing the game free for a week and if 100K people download, play, and have fun, we’ll instantly launch the game at the end of the free week. If not… RIP Decksplash."

This does mean, however, that details about Decksplash remain rather scant for now. Bossa Studios promises more information as and when the 100k people have played the game. It will update the game's information and status following the success (or lack thereof) of the free week.

If you want to be one of the first, and potentially only, people to play Decksplash, you can do so during the free week which starts on November 2.
