DayZ is getting a new map based on Arma 3's Contact Expansion

DayZ might have released in December 2018 after more than five years of development, but that doesn't mean it's finished. In fact, major additions are coming to the game, the first of which is a brand new map. After years of slogging their way across Chernarus, DayZ players will soon have the option to run around and try to survive in Livonia, a brand new map based on Arma 3's Contact Expansion setting.

Designed to be both better looking and more varied than the traditional DayZ Chernarus map, Livonia will feature 163 square kilometres of lakes, rivers, heavily forested zones, and industrial and urban areas. The weather won't be pretty, however, with players having to contend with lightning storms, heavy rain, and fog, among other conditions that make sight and sound a little restricted, for a more claustrophobic, open-map experience.

There are all the usual threats too, of course, including the undead, but there's one new predator on the map that players' won't be familiar with: bears. These monstrous creatures roam the woods and present a clear danger with their mass, speed, and strength making them hard to take down and a near instant-kill threat for anyone they get in range of.

The Livonia map doesn't have a release date as of yet, but it is said to be "coming soon," and will debut alongside the game's upcoming 1.06 update. It will be premium DLC, so you'll have to pay for the privilege of running around the new map.
