Dark Souls board game funded in first few hours

Dark Souls has proved phenomenally popular among hardcore gamers, despite (or perhaps because of) its gruelling combat system, lack of forgiveness with difficult and stressful boss fights and emphasis on skill over grinding.

It also impresses with its art style and mood though, which is why the game looks like it would transfer well to a board game, where physical models of the bosses and player characters allow for some beautiful tabletop experiences.

Perhaps that's why the game was funded in just a few short hours when it hit Kickstarter.

In-fact, at the time of writing it's garnered more than nine times the amount needed, sitting at just shy of half a million dollars - the developers only asked for $50,000!

Because of that, the game has received a number of stretch goals, adding more bosses, figure options and expansions for gameplay, but the core game in itself seems pretty interesting. There's a number of boss monsters, even more mini-bosses and a number of grunts for teams of 1-4 cooperative players will need to battle through.

Positioning is very important, and some of the key elements of the computer game have been ported over, including boss attack patterns switching up at random intervals, very limited health potions and the gruelling nature of combat in general.

What do you think of how the board game seems to be shaping up? Would you play it?
