Classic Final Fantasy games coming to Nintendo Switch

A number of the most beloved of Final Fantasy games are coming to the Nintendo Switch at some time over the next year though there is one noticeable absence from the list. Fans of the classic Japanese RPG series will be able to enjoy Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition (available now), World of Final Fantasy Maxima, Chocobo Mystery Dungeon, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, Final Fantasy X and X2, the HD Remaster, Final Fantasy IX, and perhaps most importantly, Final Fantasy VII. The original that is, not the odd remaster that's being made at the moment.

Notice anything missing from that list? There's no Final Fantasy VIII anywhere to be found. No Squall, no cards, and no Seifer either. That missing link in the chain of Final Fantasy games though isn't addressed by Nintendo in its announcement though, which might mean we'll see it debut at some point in the future too. For now though, it's been left out of the pack.

This big announcement gives us rough release dates for each of the games, with World of Final Fantasy and Chocobo Mystery Dungeon coming before the end of 2018. Everything else though will debut on the Switch in 2019 at some point, potentially beginning with Final Fantasy VII.

But that's not all. While all of these games are coming to the Switch, they're also coming to the Xbox One. And PS4 and crucially, Steam PCs, so if you missed any of these titles over the years, you'll soon be able to play them in all of their classic glory.
