Cheese to be center of DotA 2's battle royale mode

With the build up this year's International DotA 2 world championship tournament, Valve is once again releasing its digital Compendium and Battle Pass to gamers who want to pony up a few dollars and spend some time in game to earn a bunch of extra content for their favorite MOBA. However, Valve is cashing in on a trend of its own this time around, by offering a brand new battle royale-inspired game mode within DotA 2 known as The Underhollow -- and it's all about cheese.

"Battle through a labyrinth filled with monsters, marvels, and many other three-player enemy squads as you search for Roshan's rarest cheese and work to be the last team standing," the battle pass site reads. "You'll need to navigate carefully to earn the XP and Gold needed to destroy your opponents. But don't take too long—Roshan's cheese frenzy is causing cave-ins as he moves towards the center of the Underhollow. Soon enough there will be nowhere left to run."

Teams will be tasked with keeping out of Roshan's way while they level up and gather the cheese that has so incensed the beast, but as he moves around the map, he'll cause cave ins which gradually herd players into the center of the map for a final showdown with the beast himself. Winners can glean pride at besting the Underhollow's dangerous confines, but they will also net additional battle points to level up their Battle Pass.

Another new game mode known as Mutation is also now available to Battle Pass owners. The unranked play mode introduces a random selection of gameplay modifiers, changing up the age old DotA formula to something quite different with each playthrough.

As usual, the Battle Pass also offers the chance to unlock all sorts of new cosmetics as well, from sprays, to audio, to skins and couriers. A new feature also lets you tip your friends and enemies in the game to show your appreciation for their play.

And this is just the start of it. Valve has jam packed the Battle Pass with tonnes of extras to unlock and all you need to do to be part of is pay the customary $10 to get on board. You can also buy additional levels for a few dollars a piece. A portion of all purchases goes towards the International 2018's prize pool, which currently sits at just over four million dollars.
