CD Projekt Red denies EA takeover bid

A worrying rumor began circulating yesterday, which suggested that CD Projekt Red, the no DRM touting, Witcher developing, GoG managing company from Poland, was being courted by EA games as part of a buyout bid. If true, it would bring one of the most well loved gaming companies in the world, into the fold of one of the most hated.

Fortunately it sounds like the rumor was just that, a rumor.

"Just bumped into Marcin Iwiński - it was new to him. I guess the "informer" has better insight than the @CDPROJEKTRED founder," said community lead at CD Projekt Red, Marcin Momot on his Twitter account.

It seems like we can all breathe a sigh of relief, though the original rumor was quite a strong one. It came via DSOGaming, from someone that claimed to work for CDPR (proving so with a payslip) who said:

"I’m [an] employee of CD Projekt Red and I have some bad news to share with you. Electronic Arts representatives are currently visiting our studio and meeting with top management. We are not going to release any game soon, so for sure it's not about any publishing deal, so the only possible reason for EA guys being here is that they want to buy us."

Of course it doesn't mean that CDPR won't work with EA in some capacity, just here's hoping it won't be in any way where it can lean on the beloved developer.
