Call of Cthulhu gets near-Halloween release date

If you want to take part in some truly mind-bendingly horrifying gameplay this Halloween, then Cyanide's Call of Cthulhu may be just what you need. Based on the universe of H.P. Lovecraft, it will transport you into the shoes of an early 20th-century detective tasked with uncovering the horrors that await in a universe filled with ancient aliens, otherworldy creatures, and dastardly cultists who want to bring about the end of the world.

The game has been long in development, starting officially under the Frogwares banner in 2014. After a couple of years of not much though, it was transferred over to Cyanide -- developer of games like Blood Bowl and the Styx series -- where it and Focus Home Interactive (Publisher) have been working on it ever since. After long teases, hints, and promises of ancient horror, the game is now slated for an official release on October 30, just in time for Halloween gameplay.

You take on the role of Edward Pierce, who's investigating some murders on a remote island near Boston, Massachusetts. You'll have to investigate crime scenes, question the locals and try not to be killed or transformed by the horrors you find. While we can't guarantee you'll make it out alive, your sanity seems destined to be drained from you in a story that will undoubtedly bend your perception of reality around you.

If you want to play something to whet your appetite in the meantime, you can always explore Innsmouth in Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.
