Blizzard alumni set up new studio, begin work on Riot funded game

Some real industry veterans all hailing from Blizzard, have announced that they are founding a new studio called Bonfire Studios, with investment from Riot Games and a Californian venture capital firm. In total there are decades of experience going into this company, so when they start making a game, you know it will be impressive.

The big task in the coming months will be filling out vacant positions at Bonfire Studios, but they are starting on a strong foot. It was founded by World of Warcraft's lead developer, Rob Pardo, former head of cinematics at Blizzard, Nick Carpenter, ex-CEO of Nexon America, Min Kim, Diablo III's game director Josh Mosqueira and Battle.net engineering head, Matthew Versluys.

These guys know what they're doing.

No one really knows what kind of game or experience they'll craft, but presumably it will be something in the RPG/MMO space, considering the relevant experience of a number of the key founders.

Whatever it is though, it will likely be a couple of years before we hear much. Unless they get cracking on a small indi game in the near future, there's a lot of work ahead of them.
