BIOS Bug Is Causing Skylake Processors To Freeze

Users of mathematical modeling application, Prime 95, have noticed that it freezes when ran on Intel's recently released Skylake 6th generation Core processor.

The problem was confirmed by the application creator, GIMPS, who tracked it back to a bug in the processor itself. They relayed the issue to Intel who acknowledged it started working on a fix immediately.

"Intel has identified an issue that potentially affects the 6th Gen Intel Core family of products," said Intel. "This issue only occurs under certain complex workload conditions, like those that may be encountered when running applications like Prime95. In those cases, the processor may hang or cause unpredictable system behaviour."

Intel didn't explain the conditions that trigger this bug, so there is no telling which programs are likely to be affected. Luckily, Intel confirmed that it is able to fix the problem through a BIOS update which will be pushed out to users soon.
