Bethesda fixes Evil Within FPS cap on PC

If you've been playing The Evil Within on the PC, then you've been struggling away with 30 frames per second and giant, black bars across the screen, despite the fact that your PC is likely more than capable of outputting at a far higher rate than that.

Unfortunately until now, the developers claimed that was how the game was supposed to be played and that things actually looked better at 30 FPS.

However, it's now relented and released a patch that lets PC gamers switch between a 30 FPS cap and a 60 FPS cap, as well as allowing them to remove those black bars if they want.

Other changes include:

  • Various fixes to gameplay and performance for 30 FPS mode
  • Achievements now work with console enabled
  • Fixed game starting in windowed mode
  • A number of localisaion fixes

If you have the game installed on Steam, then chances are the Patch has already been downloaded and applied.

Let us know what you think of the tweaked gameplay. Does it improve the experience? Or was it really better at 30 FPS with those big, black bars?
