Avatars are back! For Windows 10?

If you've been pining away for the Xbox Avatars that once peaked people's interest for a few weeks on the Xbox 360, then never fear, you'll get your chance to use them once again when Windows 10 launches this summer, as everyone with an experimental build has been given access to the little digital avatar system.

"We’re bringing the Avatars app to Xbox fans in the Windows 10 preview - more to share later this week," announced Larry "Major Nelson," Hryb on his official Twitter account, along with a screenshot of one dressed up as Chewbaca from Star Wars.

Much like the Miiverse features on Nintendo's platform, or indeed Microsoft's Avatar system on the Xbox 360, the new avatar tools will let players craft a digital figure that looks like them - or not - to represent them during the gaming side of Windows 10.

Presumably too, Microsoft will use it as an opportunity to sell additional visual upgrades for avatars, like special costumes or body parts to make them unique or twinned with a particular game or movie.

Chances are after the release Microsoft will also be incorporating the avatars into the Xbox One platform as well, presumably around the time Windows 10 hits, which is set for some time this summer.
