Assassin's Creed movie coming in 2016

The Assassin's Creed franchise is one of the largest to come out of any developer in the past decade or so. It's had books, comics, merchandise and now a movie, which we can confirm is set for release in December 2016.

The film will feature the same sort of plot structure as the Assassin's Creed games (don't read further if you want to avoid basic *spoilers), with the protagonist being sent back in time using the Animus machine in order to retrieve certain artefacts from his ancestors' pasts. Funnily enough, most of them turn out to be assassins.

The fact that the plot revolves around multiple predecessors, suggests that elements from several of the games will be incorporated, though it's not clear which ones at this time. The cast list is also woefully small at the moment, with only Michael Fassbender confirmed to play the lead.

The movie is being directed by Justin Kurzel, who's most well known for directing The Snowtown Murders and for writing on The Turning.

There's three screenplay writers which isn't particularly encouraging.

What do you guys think of this film? Will it be a bust? Or is there enough fodder within the games to make quite a compelling story?
